Murder

It all started with that one disturbing message. After a long day of speeches and hard work James B. Smith, the current president of the United States, went home thinking he was going to get plenty of sleep when he checked has answering machine. The first few messages were just ordinary ones from his friends and family, but then it came. The last message said private caller on the caller ID. James hesitated before he pressed the button to hear the message, but then he gave into curiosity and started listening. At first there was nothing but static and then a deep voice came on.
“Hello Mr. President, in a short amount of time you will be killed, that is all I have to say.” The message ended there leaving James stunned. When he was elected president many people hated him and wanted someone else to win, but never before had he gotten a death threat. James just stared at the phone for a while. Fear started to overwhelm him. He finally trudged up to his bedroom and ended up not getting any sleep at all. The message kept haunting him repeating itself over and over again in his head.
For about a week he was extremely worried about the message. James contacted all of his agents and told them all to give him maximum protection. This security precaution lasted for about 3 weeks. Nothing had happened and it seemed as if everything was perfectly normal. James continued going to his meetings and giving speeches, he was as busy as ever. Soon he just forgot about the message and continued on being president.
2 months later when James was sitting at his office he heard a sound come from down the hallway. It was sort of a yell, but it was too quiet to be sure. It wasn’t a very busy day at the White House. Most of the people were outside enjoying the party while James needed to get some extra work done. The only other person in here was the secretary who sat down the hall a little ways. Curiosity swept over James again and he started walking slowly down the hallway.
Silence swept through the white house and the only sound the president could hear was his own footsteps. He soon came around the last corner to the secretaries front desk when he saw her. A knife had gone through her head and she lay there motionless and still. Now fear was growing in James he turned around to run, to get security, to get help but by then it was too late.
The people that were at the party in front of the White House didn’t realize anything until they heard a gunshot. Some of the people started screaming and ran while other ran inside to see what happened. When they got there they saw the president sprawled out across the ground. James had been shot. He laid there dead with a bullet hole right between his eyes.

  1. You set up the suspense immediately with your first line. Another great line is "Curiosity swept over James..." -- excellent imagery here. Well-written and riveting -- excellently done.
